The Wasa was built 1626 - 1628 by the Dutch master shipbuilder Henrik Hybertsson for the Swedish King Gustav Adolf II. She was meant to ensure domination of the Baltic. The ship had a displacement of 1400 tonnes and an impressive total sail area of 1150 square meters, and was 62 m long and 50 m high. The Wasa is one of the most well-known historic ships, not least because she tragically sank on her maiden voyage. The wreck was not located until 1956 and salvaged between 1959 and 1961. Today, the Wasa is docked in Stockholm harbor.The model kit has been very carefully put together. Frames and decks are pre-cut out. The numerous cast-metal details are gold-plated.
