KR-800789 Cutty Sark model kit The origin of clippers goes back to the town of Baltimore Product ID KR-800789
€ 379,00
The origin of clippers goes back to the town of Baltimore around 1820. They were noted for their slender hulls and sharp bows, and considerable draught. Approximately 100 of these clippers were built for shipping tea, opium and wool. The Cutty Sark was designed in 1868 to be the finest clipper in the world. Not only this, but the ship was to go down in the history books as the fastest ship, outstripping its famous competitor, the Thermopylae. The ship was built in the Scottish Dumbarton shipyard on the Clyde in 1869. At the time, passionate wagers were made as to which clipper would be the fastest. Unfortunately, the Cutty Sark did not turn out to be the victor. Today, the actual ship can be seen in dry dock in Greenwich. The model kit is very well equipped. The hull consists of frames with double planking. All balsa wood parts are precision-cut by laser. A large number of neatly packed wood and brass fittings are included in the kit. Six decorations are made of brass. The mast and yard fittings have been etched in brass. Below the water line, the entire ship is planked with small sheet copper plates, also included in the kit. 9 construction drawings and building instructions are an aid to assembly. This great model has been designed for the experienced model builder. Beginners should take on something simpler.Technical dataScale: 1/70Overall length: 1150 mm Overall width: 165 mm Height: 660 mm Planking: double
