Diana H.M.S. model kit

Launched in 1794, H.M.S. Diana is a typical British vessel from the days of Admiral Nelson, belonging to the 38-gun class of frigates, in which there were seven other ships. The Diana had a lengthy period of active service in the Napoleonic Wars. Sold to the Dutch navy in 1815, she was one of six Dutch frigates involved in the bombardment of Algiers on 27th August, 1816. Her impressive 45-year career ended on 16th January 1839, when she was destroyed in an accident while in dry dock. This model kit is the first of a new series of historical ships with new construction features and splendidly accurate detail from Calder Craft. 2 years of development effort by the well-known model-builder and designer Chris Watton, already the winner of many awards, have gone into this kit. The keel and frames are CNC-precision milled in balsa wood. Visible parts are mostly CNC-milled walnut and Tanganyikan wood, likewise for the gun-mountings and the other very many decorative parts. This is a path-breaker in the model market. The cannons, 18 and 9 pounders, are accurate scale reproductions and are of various wheel diameters. These are only a few examples which show the quality of detail this model provides. Battens and spars are made of choice quality lime, walnut and Tanganyikan wood. Blocks, deadeyes and rigging yarn are included in sufficient quantity, likewise the 2700 copper plates for the below the water-line section. Detailed assembly plans plus precise assembly instructions including many hints and notes will guide you safely through the assembly of this splendid model, which, however, is recommended only for old hands at model building.
