The U 401 which was built between 1953 and 1956 was tried and tested up to then thousand times. Alternatively the model was also available with a closed all-steel driver's cabin which was producted on commission by the Westfalia company and is lovingly nicknamed "Froschauge" (froggy eyes) by Unimog enthusiasts.
